When God is silent

Have you ever had those times in your life where you feel like God is silent? We cannot even begin to understand God's ways for they are not our ways. There are times when God is silent and those are the times we need to really press on and let our faith in Him take hold. It may be that He is teaching us patience and to wait on Him. You may be at a crossroads and are waiting on the answer...know that God has a purpose and an appointed time for His answer. His delay is not necessarily a no, but through waiting, our character is strengthened and we grow in our faith as we continue to look to Him. We live in a world where everything is instant...instant email, texts, fast food, microwave...many want that instant gratification. But in Isaiah we read "blessed are all who wait for Him." 30:18 It is not easy when God is silent...there are times when we want to feel His presence right then. Through the silence, we can learn to keep our hearts steadfast. Through the psalms there are many times they cried out to the Lord asking for the Lord to hear their prayers, asking for peace, restoration and that God would answer quickly and not delay."I say to God my Rock, why have you forgotten me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy? My bones suffer mortal agony as my foes taunt me, saying to me all day long, where is your God? Psalm 42:9-10 As we read this verse, we understand that others have gone through the same thing. The next verse is key-"Why are you so downcast O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? PUT YOUR HOPE IN GOD, FOR I WILL YET PRAISE HIM MY SAVIOR AND MY GOD."42:11  They, like you and me, had to work through the times of silence, trusting in God and believing that He will do what He says He will do.As we wait, He will sustain us "surely, God is my help; the Lord is the One who sustains me." Psalm 54:4 In the times of silence, we must turn to God's word and not our flesh. Our flesh will fail us every time. Also, your thoughts are so important...what are you focusing on? What thoughts are you entertaining? Your thoughts determine your attitude and your actions. Think on Jesus and His character. He knew the ultimate silence of God on the cross when He cried out "My God, My God, why  have you forsaken Me?" Matthew 27:46 Yet, He knew the purpose God had set before Him and He was faithful unto death. You, my friend, are not here by accident. You have a purpose. "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11 God has a plan for you here on earth. He could have already called you home, but instead, you are still here. Especially in the times of God's silence, draw near to Him and He promises to draw near to you. James 4:8 We are also told to "be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near." James 5:8 Keep praying in all circumstances...make your requests known to God. "The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." James 5:16 I pray for each of you reading this to be so strengthened in your spirit and know that even in the silence, God is there as close as the breath you breathe. Press on through the difficult days and keep your eyes on Him! God is for you.
