To him who overcomes

Last night I began reading the book of Revelation and focused on the first few chapters where God is addressing the seven churches. What really stood out for me in these chapters were the words "to him who overcomes...." I read them over and over. "To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God (2:7)." "He who overcomes will not be hurt by the second death (2:11)." "To him who overcomes, to him I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and a new name written on the stone which no one knows but he who receives it." (2:17) "He who overcomes, and he who keeps My deeds until the end..." (2:26) "He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels." (3:5) "He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write on him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God and My new name," (3:12) "He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne." (3:23)
Are you an overcomer? How does it show? Is there anything you need to do that you are not presently doing so that when Jesus appears you will not be ashamed? My friend, we do not know when the day of Jesus is...we need to be ready. We will overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. Think back to the time when Jesus saved you by His grace and the peace you felt within, the unspeakable joy you had. Have you left your first love? Jesus tells us to "remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place-unless you repent." Rev 2:5 Jesus is our high priest, He intercedes on our behalf before the Father. We have this promise that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9) We cannot continue to habitually sin once God's Spirit lives in us; "no one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God." (1 John 3:9) In other words, God is living in us so the habitual sin we once did like abusing our body with drugs, food or alcohol, or pornography-whatever the case may be, you fill in the blank, we can no longer do-God's Spirit will not allow it. We may fall, but we will get back up again. Through Jesus, we have the power to overcome. Paul speaks about finishing the race. The race we are running is in the game called life. We are not to start the race and then fall away...we are to finish the race and finish strong. Persevering through the tough times, the good times, times of heartache, times of failure, times we sin...through it all. God did not save you so that you would quit..we are to "endure hardship like a good soldier of Christ Jesus." 2 Timothy 3  We are also told not to throw away our confidence; it will be richly rewarded. We need to persevere so that when we have done the will of God, we will receive what He has promised. For in just a very little while, "He who is coming will come and will not delay, But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him." Hebrews 10:35-38  Friend, hold on to the hope you have that is in Christ Jesus. This faith we have rests on the hope of eternal life "which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time, and at His appointed season, He brought His word to light through the preaching entrusted to (Paul) by the command of God our Savior." Titus 1:2-3
"Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him." James 1:12
We will overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. To God be all the glory and honor and praise.
