Doing good
Are you doing good? By that I mean are you willing to do whatever is good no matter what someone does to you or says about you? In Titus, we are to "be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men." 3:1-2 This does not tell us to only show humility to those who are kind to us, but to everyone, no matter how they may treat us. Now this does not mean that you are to be a doormat and to let someone walk all over you, but you are to show them the same love, grace and mercy that Jesus shows you. I think it is important to remind ourselves that we were once "foolish, disobedient, deceived, and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another." Titus 3:3 Think of where you once were-an enemy of the cross. You lived for yourself and worldly pleasures. You did whatever you pleased really not giving anyone else a thought as long as you got what you wanted. "But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy." Titus 3:4 Friend, there was not anything you or I did to deserve God's mercy and love. He drew us with His Spirit so tenderly and was so patient with us while we lived in our sin. He was the one that chose you and me. He opened our eyes and it was then and only then that we saw how wretched we really were. God showed and continues to show mercy. We are far from perfect. The only standard we measure ourselves with is Jesus and we could never measure up. He took all of our sin and shame and nailed it to the cross. We are free in Him, free to be who He has called us to be. It is because of the grace, mercy and forgiveness of God that we can show that same grace, mercy and forgiveness to others. There are so many who do not yet know the forgiveness and mercy of God. We cannot expect them to act any different than they do. The veil has not been removed from their eyes. They are acting the same way you and I once did. Don't think for a moment that you are any better than them. You were once right where they are. Keeping this in mind as you deal with the world will help you to show them the love of Christ, the hope that you have. Live your life in such a way that those who do not know God will see such a difference in you that they want what you have! It is not a judgmental attitude or a condemning attitude that will draw someone to Jesus, it is the love of Jesus, that same love that drew you to Him. Let the light of Christ so shine through you. We are the light of the world...we are light for those who are in darkness. Do something good for someone today. Let the Holy Spirit work through you. Remember that same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives inside of you!
