When the Enemy Attacks
"The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full." John 10:10
We have an enemy of our soul. This enemy is satan. He wants nothing more than to rob you of your joy and to ruin your testimony in Christ. This battle began thousands of years ago when he wanted to raise his throne higher than our Lord's. He wanted to make himself like the Most High God. "How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High. But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit." Isaiah 14: 12-15 Read those verses again and notice all of the "I will" statements. satan, who was then called Lucifer was filled with pride. He works today in the hearts of man deceiving them into thinking they do not need God-that they can do life on their own. He deceives man into thinking they are in control of their life and they don't need a Savior. Or worse, he deceives man into thinking that there are many ways to get into heaven or that they will get into heaven because they are a "good" person. These are just some of the many lies satan feeds man day after day. For the Christian, he makes them feel they are not deserving of God's love or when they sin they will never measure up to God's standards and God won't forgive them. satan is the father of lies! He wants nothing more than to make you believe that you are unworthy. He wants you to feel hopeless and helpless. When difficult circumstances come upon you, satan will whisper in your ear, "where is your God?" He will do anything to cause doubt in your mind and he will attack God's character. He will try to make you fearful in situations.
You need to be aware of these attacks! satan is very subtle and usually begins by putting thoughts in your mind. He will try to coerce you or convince you that what you are doing or about to do is "not that bad." It is important for you to know the difference in when God speaks and when satan speaks. When God speaks, it is always in love and always for your good. What God says will always line up with His word, because He is truth and cannot deny His word. satan on the other hand, will make you feel condemned, oppressed, fearful or make you feel like you have to do it immediately! With God, there is always peace; with satan there is always confusion.
Set your mind on Christ and know His word so when the enemy attacks, you immediately know it is not from God. As a Christ follower, you have God's Holy Spirit living within you. God gave us His Spirit to help us, guide us and show us the way of our Father in heaven. We have everything in us to fight the enemy-we cannot do this on our own, but through Christ, we are victorious over all! "You dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world." 1 John 4:4 Jesus has given us His peace, "Peace, I leave with you; My peace I give you, I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27 Friend, we can have peace in the fiercest storms through Christ Jesus. This peace will flood your soul as you keep your eyes on Him and not on your circumstances.
Remember these words; cling to them: "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." Ephesians 6:10-13 Put on your armor my friend. In other words, stay in God's word and surround yourselves with other believers. Remember, Jesus came that we might have life and have it to the full. Rest in Him and His mighty power.
