You Are Sealed the Moment You Believe
"In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation-having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise." Ephesians 1:13
In the Greek, the word seal or 'sphragizo' "signifies ownership and the full security carried by the backing (full authority) of the owner." Also, "to seal or affix with a signet ring to stamp~to attest ownership, validating what is sealed." In the book of Haggai, God tells us, "I will make you like My signet ring, for I have chosen you." (2:23)
I don't know about you, but reading this excites me to know that in Christ, I am sealed and nothing can change this awesome truth! As soon as you and I believe, Christ seals us with His Holy Spirit! "Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set His seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come." (2 Corinthians 1:21-22) What does this mean? It means that once you are in Christ, you do not have to fear the future. You do not have to wonder if your eternity is secure. He has sealed you until the day of redemption, or the day of His coming back. You have His precious Spirit living inside of you that testifies with your spirit you are His. "And by Him we cry, 'Abba, Father.' The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs-heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may share in His glory." (Romans 8:15-17) I want you to notice the words 'share in His sufferings.' In this world, we will suffer. We will at times go through some really difficult and painful experiences, however, we can rest assured, that we will one day, also share in the glory of Christ! This life is not all there is. In light of eternity,we are only here on earth, but for a moment. Jesus promises us that He will never leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). Because of this truth, you can know that whatever you are facing, Jesus is with you every step of the way. He will give you the peace that only He can give no matter what you are facing. Keep in mind that God is always good and He knows what is best for you. As His child, He promises to work all things (the good and the bad) together for your ultimate good and His glory (Romans 8:28). Friend, you may be going through something very painful right now. I want you to know that God loves you so much and has a purpose in all of your heartache and pain. Trust Him to see you through this trial. He has not brought you this far to leave you. "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." (Philippians 1:6) God is our very present help in times of trouble and with the Psalmist you also can cry out, "though You have made me see troubles, many and bitter, You will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth You will again bring me up. You will increase my honor and comfort me once again." (Psalm 71:20-21)
As we go through life it is important to remember where we are going~heaven~to be with the Lord Jesus forever and ever! What you see right now is not all there is. One day, we will see our glorious Savior face to face. There will be no more tears, no more pain and no more suffering. "And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Now the dwelling of God is with men, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.' He who was seated on the throne said, 'I am making everything new! Then He said write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.' He said to me: 'It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. He who overcomes will inherit all of this, and I will be his God and He will be My son." (Revelation 21:3-7)
