Wait On the Lord
"Wait"~that word is not really understood in the society we live in today. We want things right now! We pray and we want an answer immediately. If we don't get the answer in an instant, we often try to make something happen and do it our own way. This always ends up in defeat.
"Wait for the Lord" Psalm 27:14 "Blessed are all who wait for Him." Isaiah 30:18 God is not on a time schedule. He does things in His own time-in His way. When we take things into our own hands, we are merely saying, I am going to handle this Lord and we are not trusting Him to provide the answer. Now we may not verbalize this, but in essence, that is what we are saying. Waiting requires patience. It requires us to sometimes stand even when all the circumstances are clearly telling us the opposite. Yes, my friend, sometimes, you are not to "do" anything, but simply stand. This is not easy. In fact, it goes against our human nature to wait. But God will give you His grace to wait and while He does, He will strengthen and perfect your character.
We must remember that His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8) ALL of the ways of the Lord are loving. (Psalm 25:10) These are two verses to hold on to as we wait. My husband and I separated a few years back and this separation lasted for almost two years. While we were separated, I prayed and sought the Lord's face and His help. Looking at the "circumstances," my marriage was over, but God gave me His grace to hold on and not make any move without Him leading me. I did not learn this overnight and it was extremely hard at times not to "do" something. I clung to His word and reminded myself that He was for my marriage and that He was no respecter of persons. I prayed that He would heal my marriage-all the while not knowing what the final outcome would be. While I waited, God showed me that He could be trusted and that He loved me more than any person ever could. He gave me perseverance, He gave me joy in the midst of all my heartache and He gave me His peace. Even though it was a difficult time in my life, I would not have changed a thing because through this time, I learned so much about my Lord. He is full of compassion and His mercy never fails. Fast forward to the present-my husband is back home with His family! Praise the Lord! If I had tried to handle the situation on my own or listened to other's advice, my husband and I would not be together today. I am sharing this with you to encourage your heart! I want to let you know that God will give you the strength and the grace to face any and every situation, but it is so important that you seek Him and wait on His answer! Do not move until God clearly tells you to move.
The enemy will try to fill your mind with doubt and worry, it is then you need to get into God's word and let it fill your heart. This is the only way you will be able to fight the enemy's attacks. Stand on the truth. God cannot and will not go against His word. The promises in His word aren't just for pastors or apostles or the great men and women of the Bible, but they are for YOU! I cannot stress enough how important it is to saturate your mind with God's word.
"I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me up out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and the mire; He set my feet upon a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord. Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust and does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods." Psalm 40:1-4 As I read those words, I understand that as we go through our difficult times, the Lord is our help and there are others who are watching our lives, who, when they see how we handle the situation, will turn to the Lord because of our testimony.
I am praying for everyone reading this, that you will seek the Lord and He will give you His strength to get through whatever you are facing while you wait on Him to answer.
