The Deep Longing In Your Heart
"Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people both now and forevermore (Psalm 125:1-2)."
"Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to Me; and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to Me; hear Me, that your soul may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, My faithful love promised to David (Isaiah 55:1-3)."
Who are what is your security? Who or what do you put your trust in? Is it your spouse, your family, job, money or material things? Friend, if it is anything other than the Lord Jesus, you will always end up disappointed and never satisfied. If you put your trust in others, they will eventually disappoint, fall short and hurt you-sometimes unknowingly and other times willingly. If you place your trust in your job or material things, these could be taken away. The One who will never fail and the One who never changes is Jesus.
In our humanity, we think we are in control; we like being in control and really don't want to give it up. We feel we can handle whatever comes our way on our own. We in fact, may continue to go down roads that eventually lead to destruction. We try to fill the longing in our hearts with drugs, alcohol, food, stuff, a title, leadership, the right person....you fill in the blank. We think, if I could just make more money, if I could find the right person, if I could find the right job than I will be satisfied. But God created you and me for Himself. He is the only one who can fill the longing in our hearts we so desperately want filled. "He is the image of the invisible God; the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things and in Him all things hold together (Colossians 1:16)."
It is not until we come to the end of ourselves, that we can truly see our great need for Jesus. You see, none of us in our flesh go seeking after God; He is the One who pursues and calls us to Himself. We did not decide one day we would follow Him. It was only because His Spirit was lovingly and mercifully drawing us to Him. "The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. Yet there are some of you who do not believe. For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray Him. He went on to say, This is why I told you that no one can come to Me unless the Father has enabled him (John 6:63-65)." "For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love, He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will-to the praise of His glorious grace (Ephesians 1:4-6)."
Grace~marvelous grace that calls you out of darkness and into His beautiful and glorious light. God's grace is a gift, for all who will receive it. God's grace is not based on anything you have done or ever will do. It is because of the finished work of the Lord Jesus~the One who died for you and me! The One who took the punishment you and I deserved. Jesus made a way to the Father for all who will believe. He left His throne in glory and chose to willingly lay down His life, so that through Him, we might have life.
God made you. He knows you better than you know yourself. He knows what you are going to say before you say it. "O Lord, You have searched me and You know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; You are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue You know it completely O Lord. You hem me in-behind and before; You have laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain (Psalm 139:1-6)."
My friend, the One who formed you, the One who knew you before the foundation of the world, loves and cherishes you. He is the One you have been searching for. He is the One~the only One who can fill the deep longing in your heart and satisfy your every need. Taste and see for yourself, the Lord is good!
