The Goodness of God

"Know that the Lord is God. It is He who made us, and we are His, we are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name, For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations (Psalm 100: 3-5)."
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of God? Your view of Him is critical. Do you see Him as unloving or loving only based on conditions? Do you see Him watching your every move ready to condemn you? Do you see Him as unjust? Do you see Him as someone like you? All of these are wrong; none of these views are based on the character of God. The Lord is God. He is set apart. He is holy and just. He is merciful and true. He is faithful to His word and will never, ever act against His word.
If any thought about God comes to your mind that contradicts His word, it is time to renew your mind and change your view of God to who He really is. God is good! He is good all the time regardless of your circumstances. He is good on the mountaintop and He is good in the darkest valley.

"You are good and what You do is good; teach me Your decrees (Psalm 119:68)."
"Taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8)."
"There is only One who is good (Matthew 19:17)."
"I am the good Shepherd (John 10:11)."

Many people feel that once they follow Jesus, their life will be perfect; they will have no troubles, all their problems will vanish and they can skip through the rest of their life. This is a common misconception. Jesus never once promised a life of ease for His followers, but He did promise to always be with us and give us His peace. "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you, I do not give as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid (John 14:27)." When you read through the Bible, you will find that every great man or woman of God went through many trials and tribulations. But deep in their hearts, they knew God was with them. He strengthened them. He gave them grace. He gave them everything they needed to do His will. They walked by faith, not by sight. It is the same for you and me today my friend. God has not changed nor will He ever change. The promises He made back then are still true today. If you will fix your eyes on Jesus, He will be your strength and will carry you through every single minute of your life. There is no problem too great that He cannot solve. There is no pit so deep He cannot pull you out of. You matter to God! Your life is of great value. If you are still breathing, then you still have purpose.
Don't let your circumstances dictate your attitude. As a child of the King, you are precious and dearly loved. You are chosen, forgiven and set free by the blood of Jesus Christ. Choose today to believe what God's word says about you. Stand on His promises and cling to Him. He is your refuge. "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at the break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; He lifts His voice, the earth melts. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress (Psalm 46:1-7)."
I have been on the mountaintop, and I have been in the valley. I have witnessed God's faithfulness time and time again. Life is constantly changing. The seasons change, loved ones die, health changes, friends and family may change, but there is one constant you can always depend on and that is Jesus~He is the same yesterday, today and forever more! If you are in the valley right now, I have a word for you: "The righteous cry out and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers them from them all (Psalm 34:17-19)." Meditate on those words my friend and let them sink deep within your spirit until you believe them. Turn your eyes away from your troubles and keep them stayed on the One who can turn your wailing into dancing, remove your sackcloth and clothe you with joy so that your heart sings to Him (Psalm 30:11-12).
God is good all the time! Goodness is part of His character. Your situation may not be good right now, but God is so good! He promises that you will see His goodness with your own eyes in your lifetime. So in the meantime, walk by faith and wait on the Lord. Test Him and you will see, He will bring it to pass!
"I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord (Psalm 27:14)."
