For His Glory

"You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they were created and have their being." Revelation 4:11
"In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering." Hebrews 2:10
By His mere breath, the Lord God created the heavens, earth and everyone in it. He literally spoke it all into existence. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, 'Let there be light'...And God said, 'Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water'...And God said, 'Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place and let dry ground appear'...And God said, 'Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night'...And God said, 'Let the water teem with living creatures and let birds fly above the earth, across the expanse of the sky'...And God said, 'Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds'...Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image..." Genesis 1:1-27
He is worthy! Whether you, me or anyone believes that, He is worthy of all glory and honor and praise! Read the above verses again and really let this truth sink deep into your heart and soul. God spoke and it happened. He created you and me from the dust of the ground and breathed into us to give us life (Genesis 2:7). Why were we created, what is our purpose? That answer is found in Colossians 1:16, "For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things and in Him all things hold together." We were created by our Father to bring Him glory in whatever we say and do!
As we go through life, it is so easy to get distracted and lose focus of why we are here. We get busy with our family, our job, sports or hobbies. We often times are selfish and make life about "us." When this happens, we have essentially taken our eyes off Jesus. This is easy for us to do because it is part of our sin nature. Although you may belong to Christ, there is and will continue to be a battle between your flesh and your spirit until the day of His return. "So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members (Romans 7:21-23)."
God wants all of us; He wants our minds our will and our emotions. This is a daily choice we must make. We must deny ourselves and follow Him. "Then He said to them all: 'If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me (Luke 9:23)." We surrender our will (and what we want) to God's will. He created us so He knows us better than we know ourselves and He always has our best in mind.
It is not easy to surrender our will. We think we know the best solution or think we know how to fix a problem. And we don't want to wait for the answer-we want instant gratification.
Friend, God is for you. He loves you with an unfailing love. "For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations (Psalm 100:5)." Everything He does is for your good and His glory. He loves us so much that He gave His one and only Son to take the punishment that we deserved. It is hard at times to wrap my mind around just how much God loves you and me....but oh, how He loves us. It is only fitting that we bring glory to the One who set us free from the grip of sin. He gave us new life. He forgives and continues to forgive our sin. He gives us joy unspeakable and a peace that passes all understanding! Our God reigns~praise His holy name!
"To the One who remembered us in our low estate
     His love endures forever.
and freed us from our enemies
     His love endures forever.
and who gives food to every creature
     His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of heaven.
     His love endures forever."
     Psalm 136:23-26
