Believing God
"Put your finger here; see My hands Reach out your hand and put it into My side. Stop doubting and believe.
Thomas said to Him, 'My Lord and My God! Then Jesus told him, 'Because you have see Me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." John 20:27-29
Now as you read those verses, it is clear that Thomas is doubting that he is really seeing Jesus in the flesh after His death. Thomas has to actually touch Jesus to know that it really is Him. However, there is a blessing for all who have not seen Jesus, yet believe. Believing is a matter of faith and trust. As humans, we naturally want to figure something out. Our natural instinct is that when we see, we will then believe. Faith in God is supernatural~God tells us that without faith it is impossible to please Him, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)
The question I have for you is, do you believe God? I am not talking just believing that He exists, but do you really believe Him and take Him at His word? I think many of us would live different lives if we really took God at His word. We would not take it for granted that we will be here tomorrow. We would make better choices in our lives that give God glory and honor Him. We would earnestly pray for anyone we know that is lost and not stop until we see God answer. He has already told us that anything we ask for in prayer, if we believe we have received it, then it shall be done. (Matthew 21:22) This kind of prayer is based on our will lining up with God's will. It is not asking for things for our selfish gain. It is simply saying, 'God, I know that You always have my best in mind and those around me, so I will trust You and Your way because you are perfect, righteous and true. As you grow in God, He will continually change you to make you more like His Son. As this happens, your desires change. Your perspective changes. You see things through God's eyes. You begin to understand that you are here to give Him glory in all you say and do. So as you pray and ask for things, know that as your requests line up with His word and His will, it will be given to you. I put the emphasis on His will because there are times when we pray believing and knowing that what we are asking for lines up with His word, however, God chooses to answer differently than what we expected. When this happens, we need to remember that God sees the end from the beginning. We can only see what is happening in our life at the present time. As a child of God, He works all things together for our good because we love Him and are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)
We serve a just God. A God who is true and loving to all He has made. He does not hold our sin against us. He is long-suffering and patient with us. Nothing happens to us that does not first pass through His loving hands.
God is so gracious and compassionate. In fact, "the Lord longs to be gracious to you; He rises to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for Him." (Isaiah 30:18)
When God gives you a revelation, believe Him! No matter what it may look like around you, trust God. Trust Him to do what He says He will do! When He acts, there is no one that can reverse it. "What I have said, that will I bring about; what I have planned, that I will do." (Isaiah 46:11) Like Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses and countless others...by faith, they believed God when He gave them a word, regardless of what they saw with their eyes, they trusted God to do what He said He would do.
Friend, the God of the Bible is the same God today. He does not change!(Malachi 3:6) He is the same yesterday, today and forevermore! Don't let your circumstances or what others say keep you from receiving your miracle! Trust God~Believe Him and take Him at His word!
