God Is Always Good

     "But You, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness." Psalm 86:15
     God is always good. It is His character. He is love. 1 John 4:8 He showed this love to the world as He sent His one and only Son to die for our sin. If you are a Christ follower, think back to before you were saved~the life you lived; the person you once were. "God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8 You were not always in fellowship with the Lord, none of us were, but God, rich in grace and mercy had a plan from the start to send Christ as an atoning sacrifice for our sins so that we did not have to pay the penalty.
     With all of that said, we live in a fallen world. A world where satan is the prince. John 12:31 All you have to do is turn on the t.v, radio, look at society and our culture to see how evil things are. More and more people are letting their boundaries down and becoming like the world. In other words, thinking and acting like people who do not know God. When I use the word "know" I mean to know intimately; to have a relationship with; to be His child.
     In this life we will have trouble. Jesus even promises this in John 16:33 "I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. BUT TAKE HEART! I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD." One thing I want to really stress is not to base God's love for you by your circumstances. God is always good, no matter what we are going through. He is for you and always will be for you. We have a tendency to think if God loves me, why am I going through this? Or why would a loving God allow this to happen? While I do not have the answers to "why" we may be going through a difficult season, I know that everything God does is in love. To His children, He makes this promise: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brothers." Romans 8:28-29 Notice the word "all." All means everything-the good and the bad. God can and will take the most difficult circumstance and work it for your good. It is during the trials of life-the valley of the shadow of death-that God will show His presence in such a mighty way and teach you things you could have only learned in the valley. It is in the valley you realize your need for God and He will come quickly to your rescue. While we don't know the outcome of the trial or difficulty and it may not be what we think it should be, we can know beyond a shadow of doubt that God is right there with us during the trial and He will carry us through to the other side. "Because he loves Me, says the Lord, I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges My name. He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation." Psalm 91:14-16
     God is for you. He loves you with an unfailing love. This love is not based on your circumstances or any other person or thing, it is based on God's character. He is love. He is just. He is faithful. People will disappoint and hurt you;sometimes these are people that are in your own family, but you can be sure that God will never disappoint you. He will never fail you. "He will not fail you or forsake you." 1 Chronicles 28:20 God's compassions never fail. Lamentations 3:22
     When you are going through painful circumstances, it is so important for you to know who God is and know His promises. His promises aren't just for the great men and women of the Bible or for pastors, clergy or Sunday school teachers...they are for YOU! God is sovereign or in complete control of everything that happens. Yes, He gives us a free will, but ultimately, His purpose will stand. Proverbs 19:21
     I have been in the valley my friend, and though it was very painful, I would not change a thing because in that valley, God showed me that He is faithful, that He gives peace that goes far beyond any circumstance, and that His love for me is beautiful and everlasting. In the valley, He showed me how to truly forgive when someone has wronged me. He also showed me my deep need for Him and only Him. The relationship you have with God is the single most important thing in life.
     As you walk through life, keep your eyes on Him, not on your circumstances. Remember as you go through your storm, God will give you the grace to make it through. He has promised that He will NEVER leave you or forsake you.
     "I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge-that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God." Ephesians 3:16-19
