Our Deliverer
"The righteous cry out and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all (Psalm 34:17-19)."
In this life, we will have troubles; we cannot escape them. Storms will come-you either just came through one or are getting ready to go through one. I am not trying to sound negative, I am just stating a fact. Jesus promises that we will have trouble. "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world (John 16:33)." You may be asking why do we have to go through heartache and pain? While I do not know all the answers to that question, I do know that we live in a fallen world- one where sin abounds. We have an adversary-satan-who tries to wreak havoc in your life. He will do anything to try and steal your joy. With that being said, we must remember that satan is a created being and can do nothing without God's permission. "(God's) dominion is an eternal dominion; His kingdom endures from generation to generation. All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as He pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back His hand or say to Him: 'What have You done?' (Daniel 4:34-35)."
There will be times in your life where everything around you is crumbling. There will be days you think you don't have the strength to make it. You feel alone...your hope may have been shattered or maybe God did not answer your prayer in the way you think He should have. What do you do now? First and foremost, remember the truth of God's word. Remind yourself of the character of God. He is loving, faithful, perfect, true and sovereign to name a few. He is not a man like us that He should lie nor does He make promises that He won't fulfill (Numbers 23:19). Don't base the character of God by your temporary circumstances. Everything that God allows to happen in our lives, He will work together for our good. Now His word doesn't say that all things that happen to us are good, but they will work ultimately together for our good. Don't rely on your feelings because they come and go. It is important for you to renew your mind with the word of God and cling to His promises.
God is our Mighty Deliverer~so what does this mean? He will rescue us and set us free from anything or anyone that holds us captive. He has already promised that He will do this. "Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress, He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains. Let them give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for men, for He breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron (Psalm 107:13-16)."
God did it then and He will do it now. His promises are for you and me today! It is in the dark times of your life that you need to see with the eyes of the Spirit. You need to have faith that God is for you and loves you with an everlasting love. Faith is trusting God through the chaos and knowing that you will come through on the other side. You are more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus. He will give you peace in the midst of your storm. He will give you unspeakable joy in the midst of your pain. My friend, He did not bring you this far to let you go now. No one can ever snatch you out of His hand. "My sheep listen to My voice; I know them and they follow Me. I give them eternal life and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of My hand. My Father who has given them to Me is greater than all, no one can snatch them out of My Father's hand. I and the Father are one (John 10:28-30)." Praise God for His truth! Once you become His, you are forever sealed with His Spirit. You are His child and He will always work for your good.
My friend, focus on God. As you turn your eyes on Jesus, your problems will fade. You will come to realize that it is for your benefit these things are happening. "Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)."
"Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory (Colossians 3:1-4)."
