God Wants a Willing, Obedient Heart
"Moses said to the Lord, O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since You have spoken to Your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue. The Lord said to him, who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and teach you what to say." (Exodus 4:10-12)
When God first called Moses, he was hesitant because he was focusing on his natural abilities and his weaknesses instead of focusing on the supernatural, awesome power of God. I think we all do that at times when God asks us to do something that we know we cannot do in our own strength. We have doubts because we are only looking at our human abilities or maybe we think because of what we have done in the past, God could never use us.
Friend, God uses anyone that has a willing heart. All throughout history, God has used people who at one time were living as enemies of the cross. Moses was a murderer. David committed adultery. Paul persecuted Christians. However, each of these men have one thing in common. God grabbed hold of their heart and they each surrendered to His Lordship and began walking by faith, not by sight. As they let Him take control, they lived their lives in reckless abandon to the One who created them. They let His Spirit have His way and against all odds, lived lives sold out to their Lord. Living this kind of life can be summed up in one word~trust. We who are saved say with our lips, we trust God, but how much do we really trust Him? Does this trust in Him show in our everyday lives? This is just one example: Are you praying for God to meet a need and then complaining about your lack? While we may not realize it or verbalize it, complaining about our situation is in essence saying, Lord, I don't trust You.
The Lord requires faith. He tells us in fact, that without it, it is impossible to please Him. (Hebrews 11:9) So what then, does this mean for you and me? It means that instead of looking at our situation through our natural eyes, we need to look at it through God's eyes. It means that we need to take God at His word. He does not lie. He does not change. What He says will come to pass. He has given us thousands of promises and He always does what He says He will do. It is up to each one of us to believe and stand on His word. No matter what the situation may look like right now, God clearly says that "in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brothers." (Romans 8:28-29)
God intends for us to live a victorious life. A life overflowing with thankfulness and a life obedient to the One who has given us everything freely. Jesus has already won the victory for each one of us. We must keep pressing on. We must listen to His Spirit and be obedient to whatever He asks us to do. But in order to hear His voice, we must get away from all the distractions and the busyness of life. We need to take time to get in His presence, not to just ask Him for things, but to listen to Him.
When God asks you to do something, He has already prepared the way for you. Remember that anything He asks, will always line up with His word and it will always be for your good and His glory. Wait on Him and His perfect timing. Let Him have His way in your heart and mind.
"Teach me Your way, O Lord, and I will walk in Your truth; give me and undivided heart, that I may fear Your name. I will praise You, O Lord my God with all my heart; I will glorify Your name forever. For great is Your love toward me; You have delivered me from the depths of the grave." (Psalm 86:11-13)
