Through the Fire
"For you, O God, tested us; You refined us like silver. You brought us into prison. You let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and water; but You brought us to a place of abundance." Psalm 66:10-12
"See I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction. For My own sake, for My own sake I do this." Isaiah 48:10-11
There are times in your life when you will go through the fire. By that I mean, you will face a difficult situation where humanly speaking, there seems to be no way. Notice in the verses that I referenced, that God is the one that does the refining. He is the one that takes you through the fire. You may be asking why would He do this? First of all, remember, that everything God does, He does in love because He is love (1 John 4:16). He cannot go against His word. You may be in a time of testing at this very moment and wonder how you will ever make it through. God promises us that He will never leave nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). God is mighty, and He has a purpose for every thing that you go through in this life. Through your hardship, He is strengthening your character, growing your faith and giving you perseverance If we never went through pain and heartache, we would never know how God can rescue. If we never experienced sorrow, we would never know that God is the healer of broken hearts. He is the One that can and will give you peace that passes all human understanding in the midst of the most trying circumstances (Philippians 4:7). He is your refuge, He is your strength in the storm. The only way He can show you this truth is when you are in the midst of a raging battle. "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." (Psalm 46:1) The God of Jacob is with you each second of every crisis you face.
As a follower of Christ, as you go through an extreme heartache or loss, God will give you peace as you keep your eyes on Him. He will give you comfort that only He can give. Others will see you living this out and wonder how? The only answer is our mighty and powerful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to whom all praise and honor is due.
Now I understand, it is not easy. There will be times when you want to give up. satan would want nothing more than to see that happen. But as a follower of Christ, you must hold on to the hope you have that is anchored in Him.(Hebrews 6:19) Like Paul said, we need to keep pressing on for that which Christ Jesus has taken hold of us (Philippians 3:12). God has made an everlasting covenant with us: "I will never stop doing good to them, and I will inspire them to fear Me, so that they will never turn away from Me. I will rejoice in doing them good and will assuredly plant them in this land with all My heart and soul." (Jeremiah 32:40-41) God will bring you through your fiery trial and bring you out into a spacious place; He will rescue you because He delights in you (Psalm 18:19).
Friend, at this moment, you may feel that God has deserted you or that you will not make it through...trust God and take Him at His word. "The righteous cry out and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Psalm 34:17. He will show you just how BIG and MIGHTY He is! He loves you with an everlasting love.
Hold on to Him and remember that He is full of compassion and mercy (James 5:11).
"Though You have made me see troubles, many and bitter, You will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth You will again bring me up. You will increase my honor and comfort me once again." (Psalm 71:30-21)
"See I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction. For My own sake, for My own sake I do this." Isaiah 48:10-11
